Shepherd's Pie My own recipe. It's dead simple to make. Ingredients are beef, mixed vegetables, and mashed potatoes.
Here's how you do it:
I prefer to use a good grade of beef -- like top sirloin that I mince myself: I just chop it up until it's basically a coarse grind. For this recipe, a couple of pounds is needed.
Mixed vegetables: I prefer the frozen ones I can buy at my local market. Kroger's own brand to be precise. They're good. Two 12 oz. bags.
Mashed potatoes, two cups.
Cheddar cheese, shredded, about one cup.
Paprika, granulated garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil, flour.
Brown the beef in a large skillet. Add olive oil if needed. Once browned, add about two tablespoons of flour, blend in.
In a separate pot, pour in the mixed vegetables and cook until tender.
Add the mixed vegetables to the beef and mix together well. Add granulated garlic, salt, pepper, and some paprika. Then add enough water such that a thick gravy is created.
Spread the mashed potatoes over the top of the mixture in an even layer. Then spread the shredded cheddar cheese over the potatoes. Dust the top with paprika.
Put into a preheated 350 degree oven and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove and let sit for a few minutes. Serves six to eight.
