SO2 Scrubber and Steam Generators, Kern River Field

SO2 Scrubber and Steam Generators, Kern River Field   More
SO2 Scrubber and Steam Generators, Kern River Field A partial view of a steam generator site, including an SO2 scrubber, at the Kern River Oil Field. You can see a worker standing on the catwalk or the SO2 Scrubber. The SO2 scrubbers were about 40 feet tall and were used to "scrub" the sulfur dioxide gasses and other impurities from the steam generator flue gasses. Back in those days the steam generators burned crude oil to generate steam. Since the Field converted over to natural gas as a fuel source, the scrubbers are no longer used. The gasses the scrubber is emitting are almost pure water vapor.
