SO2 Scrubber, Kern River Field

SO2 Scrubber, Kern River Field     More
SO2 Scrubber, Kern River Field A view of the very top of an SO2 scrubber at the Kern River Oil Field as sunset is approaching. You can see a worker standing on the catwalk on the right side. The SO2 scrubbers were about 40 feet tall and were used to "scrub" the sulfur dioxide gasses and other impurities from the steam generator flue gasses. Back in those days the steam generators burned crude oil to generate steam. Since the Field converted over to natural gas as a fuel source, the scrubbers are no longer used.
